Spirodimbria
Lipid-synthesis chemistry — a target no older acaricide shares.

Spirodimbria is an acaricide based on spirodiclofen, a tetronic acid that blocks fat synthesis rather than nerve or respiratory function. Because no older acaricide class shares that target, it performs on mite populations that have stopped responding to everything else. It is strongest on eggs and immature stages and gives long residual control across citrus, apple, cherry, vine, peach and pear.
Characteristics
- A mode of action unrelated to every older acaricide class
- Effective where resistance to other groups has developed
- Strong ovicidal and larvicidal activity, long residual
- Covers citrus, apple, cherry, vineyard, peach and pear
- Also controls pear psylla at higher rate
- IRAC Group 23
How it works
Spirodiclofen inhibits acetyl-CoA carboxylase, the first committed step of lipid biosynthesis. Mites cannot build the fats they need for moulting and egg development, so immatures fail to develop and females lay non-viable eggs. IRAC Group 23.
