Chlorpybria

Contact, stomach and vapour action — in the field and in the store.

Chlorpyrifos-methyl 227 g/l
Chlorpybria — EC - Emulsifiable Concentrate — Sembria

Chlorpybria is an organophosphate insecticide based on chlorpyrifos-methyl. It reaches the pest three ways — contact, ingestion and vapour — which is what makes it effective in situations where coverage alone is not enough: aphids sheltering in curled leaves, thrips deep in a flower, and the moths, beetles and mites that infest dried fruit and nuts in storage. It is one of the few products in the range registered for both field and store.

Characteristics

  • Three routes of action: contact, ingestion and vapour phase
  • Registered for stored-product protection as well as field use
  • Controls the difficult dried-fruit complex: fig moth, tobacco moth, raisin moth, sap beetle, grain beetle, dried fruit mite
  • Broad field label: vineyard, cabbage, melon, watermelon, pepper, tomato
  • Seven-day pre-harvest interval across the label
  • Emulsifiable concentrate — mixes easily and applies with standard equipment

How it works

Chlorpyrifos-methyl inhibits acetylcholinesterase, the enzyme that clears acetylcholine from the nerve synapse. The transmitter accumulates, nerves fire continuously, and the insect dies of convulsive paralysis. The vapour phase extends control to pests the spray droplet never reaches. IRAC Group 1B.

Composition, method of application and dose may vary between countries for climatic, technical or legal reasons.

Application

How to apply

Grape berry moth: time applications by the prediction-warning system — apply when trap catches peak and begin to decline, with effective temperature sums of 120, 520 and 1047 day-degrees for the first, second and third generations respectively. Cabbage butterfly: inspect after flights are detected and treat at 10% infestation. Aphids in melon, watermelon and tomato: from April, walk the field diagonally sampling one fresh leaf or shoot every 3-5 steps; treat when 20-40 sampled leaves average 10-20 aphids. Western flower thrips in pepper: treat at 10 thrips per leaf on small-leaved varieties, 20 on large-leaved.

Compatibility

Do not mix with strongly alkaline plant protection products. Conduct a preliminary mixing test with fungicides, insecticides and acaricides.

Always carry out a compatibility test before preparing a tank mixture.

Safety and handling

Flammable. Harmful in contact with skin and if inhaled; causes skin irritation, may cause allergic skin reaction and serious eye damage. Very toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects. Harmful to fish and bees — do not apply during flowering. Inhibits blood cholinesterase. Store locked up. Do not re-enter for 1 day.

Read the label before use. Do not use at home. Keep away from children, food and animal feed. Use only as recommended and at the recommended dose.
